Study: CBN Reverses Age-Related Cognitive Decline

A groundbreaking study found that FloraWorks' TruCBN™ reversed age-related cognitive decline in mice. This first-of-its-kind research demonstrates CBN's potential to actively restore brain function and memory.

The Science Behind TruCBN™: Reversing Cognitive Decline

A landmark study has produced compelling evidence that TruCBN™ can reverse cognitive decline associated with aging.

The research, published in Redox Biology,  marks the first demonstration that TruCBN™ can actively restore brain function in a robust aging model, establishing a new frontier for cannabinoid-based cognitive support.

“While our cell culture studies suggested that CBN might be effective in vivo, it was really exciting to actually see these beneficial effects in aging mice which indicates that further studies with CBN are warranted”

-Dr. Pamela Maher, Study Author & Research Professor, Salk Institute

Key Study Findings:

Improved Cognitive Function
Spatial learning and memory significantly enhanced in aged mice, especially females.
Sex-Specific Metabolic Effects
CBN improved oxygen consumption and energy expenditure, indicating enhanced mitochondrial function, especially in females.
Neuroprotection
CBN upregulated markers of mitochondrial dynamics and energy production that declined with age.
Synaptic Restoration:
CBN restored proteins essential for neuronal communication, including synaptophysin and PSD-95.

CBN Preserves Mitochondria & Protects Neurons from Age-Related Stress

In an earlier foundational study published in Free Radical Biology & Medicine, researchers demonstrated that CBN:

  1. Prevents neuron death under conditions of oxidative stress
  2. Maintains healthy mitochondrial shape and energy output
  3. Acts through a novel mechanism, independent of CB1/CB2 pathways

These findings laid the groundwork for deeper exploration into CBN's role in neurodegeneration, culminating in the recent SAMP8 in vivo results.

What This Means for the Future of Brain Health

Together, these studies suggest TruCBN™ may be a novel neuroprotective molecule that directly targets the underlying mechanisms of cognitive decline associated with aging.

By targeting mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and synaptic loss, TruCBN™ opens the door to novel interventions for age-related neurodegenerative diseases — including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and related conditions.

These preclinical results position TruCBN™ as a promising ingredient for both prevention and therapeutic support, in the context of neurodegenerative disease and age-related cognitive decline.
“We’re entering a new era in cannabinoid research—one that moves beyond general wellness into targeted therapeutic potential. This study demonstrates that CBN does more than support sleep quality—it modulates key pathways linked to aging, neurodegeneration, and resilience. The translational implications are profound.”
